I have been sewing most of my life and when I moved to Germany with my husband it was very apparent that I would not be able to find employment. A recent college graduate I was saddened but I didn't let it get me down. I was approached by a woman asking me to make her a diaper bag from her husbands uniform. So I took the challenge and 49 North Designs. I am often asked the meaning behind 49 North. At the time we lived in Piesport Germany and 49° North is the latitude of Piesport. You may be thinking "Okay, now I understand the 49 N part but she makes military bags so why the design part?!" Well good thing you asked! I don't limit myself to only making things from uniforms. I have been sewing since I was 12 and I love to create all things, not just sewn items. Painting, crocheting, oh the list could go on and on. I guess you could call me an artist?! Professional crafter?! I have always been good at using my hands, I began playing the violin in 4th grade and I have had a piano in the house since about the same time. I love creating all kinds of beautiful things and I encourage my children to do the same daily. It has been 2 wonderful years of creating custom Tribute bags and our small business continues to expand thanks to our wonderful customers. After the great success of our last event I decided it was time for a blog. I need to have another outlet besides my FB fan page to put some of the great things I create out there. I have a terrible blogging history due to the fact that I fail to blog anything! 49N is part of me and I do business almost every day of the week. I am often trying to return emails while cooking dinner, helping kiddos with homework and making sure the embroidery machine keeps going. Its a crazy life but its mine and I love it!
